Friday Featured Blogger is Jacqui at Single Mama Review Corner

Meet Jacqui! She is the blogger behind several blogs that I think you will enjoy!
The Single Mama Review Corner

1. Tell us about yourself-family, job, things you like to do - I am a single mother to a wonderful 9 year old daughter. I work fulltime outside the home in the finance industry. I love spending time with family and friends. Reading and going to the movies are my favorite past time.

2. What is your blog about? I have several blogs. One is my personal blogs where I put my own personal posts about being a single mother and what happens in my life. This blog can be seen at http://singlemamachallenges.blogspot.com/. I also have a review and giveaway blog. I had been trying to break into doing product reviews for months and was so excited when I did. I was given assistance from one of my fellow bloggers who also does reviews. This blog can be seen at http://singlemama-reviewcorner.blogspot.com/. My final blog is the one I have with my daughter. We just started this blog in the last month and we plan to have a lot of fun with this! This blog can be viewed at http://motherdaughterconnection.blogspot.com/.

3. What inspired you to start your blog? I was writing in my journal one night and decided I wanted to start a blog and hope to reach an audience of single mothers, or even single dads!

4. How do you fit your blog into your schedule? Do you set aside certain times of the day to blog? I do blog on my own schedule. I mainly do it in the evenings after my daughter goes to bed. Except of course the blog she and I work on together. However, with my review blog, she is my partner in crime, so when I do a review for something she has tried, she and I will sit on the couch and go over likes and dislikes before posting th review.

5. What do you hope to achieve in the future with your blog? My eventual goal is to get a single parenting website going with many different sections and help links for my audience. I can only hope it reaches many single parents who not only need help, but can also offer valuable assistance to others in the same situation.

The Cascade 24 hour challange and giveaway

Photobucket
I hate doing the dishes. I don't throw around the word hate too much, but I can honestly say that I hate doing the dishes with every fiber of my being! I am beyond thankful that we have a dishwasher. It makes my life as a stay at home mom just that much easier by giving me one less thing to do!
Now if you know me, you know I'm not that great of a cook. I burn things, and leave my dishes out well until the next day. I'm so embarrassed to admit that, but you know I'm not *that* perfect :D
Photobucket
I was given the opportunity to do the Cascade dishsoap 24 hour challenge. I was pretty excited to do this review as it involved dessert! I was sent a lovely baking dish, a recipe for blueberry cobbler, and a package of Cascade Complete All-in-1 Action Pacs to use with the following instructions

* Bake a Blueberry Cobbler.* Enjoy!

* Set the empty baking dish out for 24 hours

* Without rinsing, put it in the dishwasher with Cascade Complete

How perfect :D I had all the supplies needed and baked this delicious dessert. It was awesome, and just what we needed on a cold and rainy day. My sister was visiting, so with her help along with myself, Bill, and Cooper, we finished the cobbler in one night. So that made it easy to begin the challenge. The dish sat out like a centerpiece on my dining room table while we went about our day. I didn't soak it our wipe it out, I just let the cobbler remnants dry out and harden.
Twenty-four hours went by and it was time to get the party started. The dish went in the dishwasher, one Cascade All-in-1 ActionPac went in the dispenser and I closed the door and went on with my evening.
I was kind of nervous. I thought this wouldn't work, especially with my bad luck. I thought my dishwasher would somehow fail me. But no, the dish came out spotless.SPOTLESS!!! This means I can continue on with my lazy ways of not washing my dishes and cleaning up after myself after dinner! Haha, no I won't do that, but I was impressed! We've tried our fair share of dish soap, trying every brand name there is, and Cascade did exactly what it said it would-it conquered tough foods and greasy messes. And just like that, I could focus on enjoying the meal "without having to worry about the clean up". Awesome!
I really encourage you to take the 24 hour challenge too, and try Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs, you won't be disappointed!
"Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionsPacs give you the confidence of a job done right. It breaks down, dissolves, and rinses away tough food particles without the need to pre-wash." visit www.cascadeclean.com for more information.

Attachment Parenting-what is it?

Time for a little personal review!
I parent in the way of Attachment Parenting. I cant imagine not living my life this way. It's just what feels natural to me, and I'm surprised more people don't parent this way!
Never heard of it? Well, check this out!

What Attachment Parenting Is
From AskDrSears.com:

Attachment parenting is a style of caring for your infant that brings out the best in the baby and the best in the parents.

7 Attachment Tools: The Baby B'S

1. Birth bonding
The way baby and parents get started with one another helps the early attachment unfold. The days and weeks after birth are a sensitive period in which mothers and babies are uniquely primed to want to be close to one another. A close attachment after birth and beyond allows the natural, biological attachment-promoting behaviors of the infant and the intuitive, biological, caregiving qualities of the mother to come together. Both members of this biological pair get off to the right start at a time when the infant is most needy and the mother is most ready to nurture.

2. Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is an exercise in babyreading. Breastfeeding helps you read your baby's cues, her body language, which is the first step in getting to know your baby. Breastfeeding gives baby and mother a smart start in life. Breastmilk contains unique brain-building nutrients that cannot be manufactured or bought. Breastfeeding promotes the right chemistry between mother and baby by stimulating your body to produce prolactin and oxytocin, hormones that give your mothering a boost.

3. Babywearing
A baby learns a lot in the arms of a busy caregiver. Carried babies fuss less and spend more time in the state of quiet alertness, the behavior state in which babies learn most about their environment. Babywearing improves the sensitivity of the parents. Because your baby is so close to you, you get to know baby better. Closeness promotes familiarity.

4. Bedding close to baby
Wherever all family members get the best night's sleep is the right arrangement for your individual family. Co-sleeping co-sleeping adds a nighttime touch that helps busy daytime parents reconnect with their infant at night. Since nighttime is scary time for little people, sleeping within close touching and nursing distance minimizes nighttime separation anxiety and helps baby learn that sleep is a pleasant state to enter and a fearless state to remain in.

5. Belief in the language value of your baby's cry
A baby's cry is a signal designed for the survival of the baby and the development of the parents. Responding sensitively to your baby's cries builds trust. Babies trust that their caregivers will be responsive to their needs. Parents gradually learn to trust in their ability to appropriately meet their baby's needs. This raises the parent-child communication level up a notch. Tiny babies cry to communicate, not to manipulate.

6. Beware of baby trainers
Attachment parenting teaches you how to be discerning of advice, especially those rigid and extreme parenting styles that teach you to watch a clock or a schedule instead of your baby; you know, the cry-it-out crowd. This "convenience" parenting is a short-term gain, but a long-term loss, and is not a wise investment. These more restrained styles of parenting create a distance between you and your baby and keep you from becoming an expert in your child.

7. Balance
In your zeal to give so much to your baby, it's easy to neglect the needs of yourself and your marriage. As you will learn the key to putting balance in your parenting is being appropriately responsive to your baby – knowing when to say "yes" and when to say "no," and having the wisdom to say "yes" to yourself when you need help.

Fridays Featured Blogger: Marissa at The Review Stew and The Hardest Job On Earth

Marissa is the mommy blogger behind two great blogs:
The Review Stew
and The Hardest Job on Earth.
I hope you take a minute to learn a little about her and her blogs, and become a follower!

The Review Stew

The Hardest Job on Earth Blog

About myself: I have been married for three years to my high school best friend (he was in love with me then, but he was too immature at the time to date :). I am a certified and licensed athletic trainer, but I have chosen to stay home with our 6 month old son for now. I love to read, play sports of any kind, go on walks with my family, and travel. I have recently gotten into blogging and I love it!

Blogs: I have two blogs: 1) The Hardest Job On Earth is a blog to honor all mothers out there and to share our experiences! It details many of my experiences as a new mother and I also mix in some health articles to help keep me on top of my game! :)
2) The Review Stew is my blog primarily for reviews of books and products with a dash of giveaways. I have some great reviews and giveaways coming up!

What inspired me to write blogs: My sister told me about blogging and I was hesitant at first because I didn't know much about it. One day I had a lot on my mind and I decided to set one up just to write down my thoughts. And now here I am with two great blogs that I love! It is a great stress reliever and mind clearer for me! :)

How do I fit it in my schedule: I fit it in whenever my son is napping. It gives me a good time to clear my head and take a breather.

What do I hope to achieve with my blog: Ultimately, I just want to make a difference in other people's lives. Being a stay at home mom can get lonely sometimes, so the interaction you get with others in the blog world can be inspirational! I hope to show people great products and give some great prizes away on The Review Stew. On The Hardest Job on Earth, I hope to share my experiences with other mothers and make a difference in others' lives with my health articles. I hope to widen my audience and maybe someday have another blog just devoted to what I know about health and wellness.

Ouchies review and giveaway!!

Being a mom of a toddler, I'm bound to need a bandage from time to time. And being Coopers mom, I need a bandage all.the.time! He loves to play doctor and pretend we're all hurt and a bandaid is the perfect cure according to Dr. Cooper!
We've always used the plain brown bandaids because I'm not a fan of the characters that are displayed on the popular brand of bandaids.

I discovered and I fell in love with the Ouchies products after getting an email about them from my friend. These band aids are so much fun! There are many styles to choose from. I was given the opportunity to review 3 tins of band aids from Ouchies. I chose the Mr Men and Little Miss because I absolutely love those characters, and have since I was a kid. And I also chose the Ouchies Jr Olivia prints because Cooper is a big Olivia fan. The first thing I noticed were the tins they came in. I love the fact they come in tins, it reminds me of the style of band aids my own mom used and who doesn't love something nostalgic? The tins are entertaining with pictures and blurb on the side with the directions for use...it's actually really cute how they instruct you but I wont spoil it, I'll let you find out for yourself!

I actually was (unfortunate) enough to use my first Ouchies right away, as Cooper had a small blister from his new pair of shoes. He loved picking out which character would help him feel better. He of course chose an Olivia band aid. These band aids are soft and plyable, not like the crunchy store brand kind. And what I loved most of all, and if you have a toddler you will too, is that if it gets wet it stays on! Even better, is that it doesnt hurt to peel off despite how strong it is. That was a huge relief to me because my little man is a touch dramatic when it comes to his "owies" so the less pain the better! He loved these bandages so much he of course had several imaginary injuries that needed covered up :D

There are so many fun styles to choose from, and to name a few: 4Boyz, 4Girlz, Trucktown, and you can even design your own!! I didnt notice that style until after I got my package to review, those ones would be so great for kids!
Ouchies says they "Hide your wound, not your style!" and they are not lying! Your kid will love these, I know mine did (and of course, I do too!)

Buy it: Buy your own Ouchies products at www.ouchiesonline.com for just $5!! Or check here if they are sold in a store near you! If you are a mom, you and your kids will love these band aids!

Win it: One lucky reader will win TWO tins of their very own!!

Here's how:
Mandatory Entry(ies): Become a FB fan and/or Twitter Follower of Ouchies! Leave me a comment (or two if you've done both) and let me know you're their fan! Leave your email address in your comment

Extra Entries: To qualify for extra entries, you must also complete the Mandatory entry. Please put each entry in a separate comment. (and for example, if you are already a FB fan, just leave a comment stating :i'm a fan on FB) for each entry/comment, you must leave your email address.

*Visit Ouchies online and tell me which product you'd like to try
*Become a Facebook fan of Life with the Stevens, leave a comment telling me you're a fan
*Become a Twitter follower of Life with the Stevens and leave a comment saying so
*Tweet about this giveaway and/or leave a status update on Facebook mentioning this giveaway, make sure you use @Life with the Stevens on facebook or @Hlstevens on Twitter so it gets back to me!
*Follow my blog through google by clicking the follow button on the right side of the page
*Blog about this giveaway on your blog and leave a link to your blog in your comment

so you have several ways to enter!! Your chances are great :D
Entrants from the US are eligible. Contest Ends on April 17th at 12:00 pm EST. Winners will be chosen by random.org and announced April 18th, 2010. Winners will be notified by email with “You Have Won the Ouchies Giveaway” in the subject line. Winners will then have 72 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen.

Disclaimer/Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to do this review and giveaway and Ouchies sent me three styles to review. Ouchies will be responsible for prize distribution after I provide shipping info of the winner. No other compensation was given. All opinions and views stated are my own.

Friday Featured Blogger is Cole at Cole's First Blog!

This feature was such a fun one! Cole's First Blog is written from the perspective of Cole, who is 7 months old. His mom Sarah may (or may not ;)) help him along.

1. Tell us about yourself-family, job, things you like to do
Hi there! My name is Cole and I think I may be the web's youngest blogger, as I am 7 months old and have been posting since January. I am currently unemployed. It's hard finding work without a college (or high school... OR elementary school) degree - the recession, you know? Luckily my parents let me live at home, rent free. I live with Mommy and Daddy and my furry big brother, Henry. Most of the time I just hang out with Mommy and Henry during the day, but when Daddy is home we like to go on adventures.

2. What is your blog about?
My blog is about me! I write about daily life, with lots of pictures, and the occasional review/giveaway. It is continually growing and has changed from just ramblings that my Grammy likes to read to something with a broader audience. I'm currently looking to expand even further and gain sponsors - any earnings that my blog generates go into my college fund.

3. What inspired you to start your blog?
Mommy has had a semi-private blog for about 12 years and enjoys getting feedback from her friends; it's a great way to record moments - from the great to the mundane - and to keep in touch with family. It is a modern take on a baby book - an interactive extension of the photo album every mom keeps from the moment they bring a baby home. I really like that I can not only add text and pictures, but also other media like music and video.

4. How do you fit your blog into your schedule? Do you set aside certain times of the day to blog?
I take my private photographer (Mommy) with me everywhere - and I'm always open to new ideas to blog about as I go about my day. I have all of the original ideas, but the entries themselves are ghost-written after I go to bed. I rely heavily on the "Schedule Post" feature.

5. What do you hope to achieve in the future with your blog?
I have fallen in love with the networking aspect - I have made so many new friends through blogs (Emmie Bee, Gregg, Julie, and Blair to name a *very* few) and it has forced me to focus on and think about every day - to pause and appreciate every moment. I'd like to continue to discover new blogs and experiment with the various social media outlets. It's exciting to have an internet footprint that is growing with me. Hopefully, down the line, I'll be able to gain some sponsors and generate a little savings!

Thanks again to Cole, and his mom Sarah for participating!!!

4. How do you fit your blog into your schedule? Do you set aside certain times of the day to blog?
My daycare kids show up at 4:00a.m. and they usually go back to sleep for a few hours. I work on my blog from the time they go back to sleep until the time they wake up. I also work on my blog after my husband and daughter go to bed at night. I think it is very important to spend as much time with them as I can and so I try not to let my blog interfere with my family life.

5. What do you hope to achieve in the future with your blog?
I just hope that my blog will continue to grow and that I can continue to get to know each of my readers. I look forward to all of the e-mails and comments each day and hope that I can just expand on what I have going now and just keep reaching for the stars! I am planning on adding more stores to my weekly match up list and have currently been getting involved with more companies to bring in bigger and better giveaways!

Thanks again for the interview Krista!!

Thursday freebies!!

I'm sad I forgot my wordless Wednesday post yesterday! Frankly I forgot it was Wednesday. Being a mom can be very distracting sometimes ;) But a good distraction!
I'll try and remember to post some pics later today. But until then, here are a few freebies that have crossed my desk.

**Walmart is sending out samples of Dove Men+Care soap-its body and face wash combined! Sounds like a great sample for men who like to take a total of a 30 second shower (ew! lol!) Go here for your sample.

**More Emergen-C samples!! This time, they are being offered through Elle. I was so thankful the samples I received a while back, it really helped me fight off a potential cold that Cooper had brought home from school. Go here for your sample, and you can choose your flavor!

**Fill out this form to be entered in a weekly drawing for free Carmex! We love Carmex in our house, we use it for sore noses and lips when we have colds, it works great! They pick 50 winners each week, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones!
